Mechanical Breakdown Insurance - Essential and Extreme Cover

What is MBI?

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI) covers the reasonable cost to repair the actual failure of mechanical or electrical parts as a result
of a sudden and unforeseen breakdown that occurs during normal use in New Zealand, unless otherwise excluded in the policy book.

Essential

Claim Limits

  • $5000 - up to 160,000 kms - Standard, Special, European, Executive

  • $4000 - up to 250,000 kms - Standard, Special, European

  • $3000 - up to 300,000 kms - Standard, Special with $300 excess

    Maximum amount paid for one claim is market value of the vehicle at the time of claim

Excess Options

  • Standard and Special - $100, $200, $300

  • European - $350, $450

  • Executive - $350, $450

Maximum Mileage

  • 300,000 kms - Standard and Special

  • 250,000 kms - European

  • 160,000 kms - Executive

Maximum Age

  • 20 years* - Standard vehicle

  • 16 years - European

  • 12 years - Executive

* Maximum age is 18 year for 36 months and 16 years for 48 months

Extreme

Claim Limits

  • Unlimited - Standard vehicle ($100 excess)

  • $12,000 - Special ($250 excess)

  • $10,000 - European ($350 excess)

  • $10,000 - Executive ($500 excess)

Maximum Mileage

  • 160,000 kms - Standard, Special and European

  • 100,000 kms - Executive

Maximum Age

  • 12 years - Standard, Special and European

  • 10 years Executive

It’s worth noting that ‘Extreme’ cover is enhanced to include airbags, suspension, clutches, factory fitted audio, fluids, filters, gaskets, oil, plastic componentry, shock absorbers, SRS airbags, sunroof and wiring looms.

Additional Benefits

AA Roadservice – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year assistance with towing, flat battery, lockout service, lost keys, flat tyres and out of fuel (2 callouts per year).

Reimbursement for costs – If your vehicle takes more than 24 hours to repair and you are more than 100kms away from your home you may choose from the following up to the maximum claim limit:

Essential

  • Up to 5 days accommodation; or

  • Up to 5 days rental car hire costs; or

  • Up to $250 repatriation costs for your vehicle to your home address or another location

  • Maximum claim limit of $500

 

Extreme

  • Up to 10 days accommodation; or

  • Up to 10 days rental car hire costs; or

  • Up to $500 repatriation costs for your vehicle to your home address or another location

  • Maximum claim limit of $1,500

Important Information

  • You are required to keep your vehicle serviced at your cost to ensure the cover under this policy remains in place

  • Exclusions apply – please refer to the ‘We Do Not Cover’ sections of the policy books

  • You may cancel this policy by providing written notification to Autosure within 10 days of receiving your policy documentation.
