Consumer rights and legislation

The journey that you take to apply for a loan, buy a car, buy insurance and pay back the loan is governed by legislation to protect the consumer. Every person that works in these industries must comply to the various legislation. We have listed relevant legislation, bodies and independent advisors that can provide you with information on your rights. We believe knowledge is power that puts you in the driver’s seat.

Whether you decide to get a loan through us or organise your loan with another finance company, we implore you to seek advice and know what terms you are getting into before signing any contract.

Legislation:

  • Fair Trading Act 2012

  • Consumer Guarantees Act 1993

  • Motor Vehicle Sales Act 2003

  • Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003

  • Privacy Act 1993

  • Financial Advisers Act 2008

The Consumer Protection website has a lot of very useful resources and explains your rights under each of the acts. We encourage you to make yourself familiar with your rights before organising finance.
